Manitou Springs is gearing up for one of its most beloved fall traditions — the 30th Annual Emma Crawford Coffin Races today, Saturday, October 26. If you plan to attend, be prepared for a few traffic changes and parking updates as thousands gather to celebrate this uniquely spooky Colorado event.

From 9 a.m. to noonManitou Avenue will be closed from Old Man’s Trail to the Ruxton Avenue roundabout. All side streets intersecting Manitou Avenue will also be closed during this time. From noon to 3 p.m., Manitou Avenue remains closed, though eastbound traffic will be permitted at Pawnee Avenue.

City officials recommend avoiding downtown Manitou Springs between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. due to expected congestion. For those heading to the races, parking will be available at the Dillon Mobility Lot, or visitors can take a $5 shuttle from the Citizens Service Center or DMV Parking Structure to one block from downtown.

Cyclists can take advantage of PikeRide’s free bicycle valet at Manitou Springs Memorial Park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Rideshare drop-offs and pickups will be located near Chase Bank at 484 Manitou Ave.

The Emma Crawford Coffin Races have become a Halloween-season staple for residents and visitors alike — blending local lore, creativity, and competition into one unforgettable day.
