Colorado Springs and Fort Carson are taking a major step forward in supporting military families, young soldiers, and workforce mobility with the launch of the new Carson Connector program.
Beginning next week, soldiers and families stationed at Fort Carson will have access to a free, app-based, on-demand transit system that functions similarly to rideshare services like Uber or Lyft. Instead of relying on traditional shuttle routes and fixed stops, users can request rides directly to their destination through an app-based platform.
This is more than just a transportation update. It is a quality-of-life improvement that addresses a very real challenge many military families face, especially junior enlisted soldiers, one-car households, new arrivals to Colorado Springs, and families adjusting to military life and budgeting.
The program, called Carson Connector, is operated through a partnership with the Fountain and funded through federal reimbursement dollars. The fleet includes nine vans, including ADA-compliant transportation options to better serve all riders.
One of the most impactful aspects of this program is connectivity. Riders will be able to travel not only around post but also to key off-post locations, including:
- Pikes Peak State College
- The Venetucci Boulevard Walmart transit connection area
These destinations create better access to additional public transportation systems, education opportunities, shopping, and community resources throughout the Pikes Peak region.
As a retired military spouse and REALTOR® serving Colorado Springs, Monument, Fountain, and the surrounding military communities, I see firsthand how transportation impacts day-to-day life for military families. Reliable transportation affects everything from work schedules and education to housing choices, childcare logistics, and overall stress levels.
Programs like Carson Connector may seem simple on the surface, but they can make a meaningful difference for:
- Young soldiers without vehicles
- Families managing one-car households
- Spouses balancing work and childcare schedules
- New military families transitioning to Fort Carson
- Families exploring off-post housing options
This initiative also highlights something larger happening across the Colorado Springs region: community leaders, military leadership, and local municipalities are actively working together to improve infrastructure and support the growing needs of our military population.
Colorado Springs continues evolving not only as a military town, but as a community focused on improving quality of life, accessibility, and long-term sustainability for both military and civilian residents.
The Carson Connector soft launches Tuesday following Memorial Day, with full operations expected June 1.
For military families relocating to Colorado Springs, these kinds of community improvements matter. They help create flexibility, support independence, and improve access throughout the region.
If you are considering moving to Colorado Springs, relocating to Fort Carson, or exploring off-post housing options near military installations, understanding transportation, commute patterns, schools, and community resources is an important part of finding the right fit for your family.
