I LOVE thrifting.
There is just something about walking into a thrift store with no idea what you are going to find and walking out with the perfect addition to your home décor or wardrobe.
Maybe it is a vintage vase that looks like it belongs in a boutique. Maybe it is a great jacket, a piece of furniture with some character, or one of those completely random finds that you did not know you needed until you saw it.
And the best part? Finding something you love without the financial regret later.
That is probably why thrifting has always appealed to me. It is part treasure hunt, part creativity, and part patience. Some days you find absolutely nothing. Other days, you cannot believe what someone else decided to donate.
Colorado Springs has a great mix of thrift stores, vintage shops, antique malls and secondhand stores depending on what you are looking for. A recent Springs Magazine roundup highlighted several local favorites, including Crafted & Thrifted, The Rustic Roost, Arc Thrift Store, Eclectic CO., Goodwill and B-COS We Care Bargain Box.
If you are looking for vintage clothing and smaller home décor, Crafted & Thrifted may be worth checking out. The Rustic Roost is more of an antique mall experience, with décor, records, collectibles and furniture spread among different vendors.
For the classic thrift-store experience, Arc and Goodwill offer a little bit of everything.
And if you enjoy more curated vintage pieces and locally made items, Eclectic CO. has locations downtown and in Old Colorado City.
There is also B-COS We Care Bargain Box downtown, where proceeds help support local programs throughout Colorado Springs and El Paso County.
For me, though, the fun is not necessarily knowing exactly where to go or exactly what I am looking for. It is the hunt.
There is nothing quite like finding something unique, bringing it home, and knowing you gave it another life without spending a fortune.
